Greyscale Tail & Hair Tutorial HIGH RESOLUTION

I use a Bamboo Wacom Tablet, this makes drawing so much easier, i think you can practice this with a Mouse too. But this is really difficult.*NOTE : If you use / try this Tutorial please give a short Feedback so i can chance things next time if you don’t understand it and make it easier.First of this is a Grey-scale it means that the whole drawing is only colored with grey-tones. It’s only an example you can make this with any other color you want, the way is every time the same. You must only chose 3 Color Tones from the same family e.g. Brown : You need a light brown a basic brown and a dark brown So let’s start with the brush settings, i use a basic Photoshop brush with

2px 100% hardness100% opacityColors : Basic. # 838383Light: # ecececShade : # 313131

1 Let’s start with the ‘outline’ start at the top and draw tiny - middle hard lines, those helps you to find a good form for you’re tail. If you are not happy with the result, try it again.
2Now we filled the Tail with the basic color i use a 2 px brush for this, for the most realistic look i draw every single hair until the tail is complete filled. If you want to cut him later draw it long enough ! Chose a 2 px brush with the same settings from step 1 2px 100% hardness100% opacityAnd draw some tiny hair on the outside, use lower pressure for this ! 2px 100% hardness100% opacity3 Shading Now start with the shading i use a 2 px round brush with these settings 2px 100% hardness31% opacityShade the tail in the same way like step 2, draw hair by hair. Use more pressure for darker lines and lower pressure for light lines. 4 HighlightsChange the brush size to 1 px and use this settings 1px 100% hardness43% opacityAnd start to draw the highlights in the same way you draw the shades. Use more pressure for darker lines and lower pressure for light lines. 5 Burn - toolThis is a effective Tool to dim colors and draw realistic shades. Now it’s time to experience a little, you can try out different brush sizes and opacity. ATTENTION ! Duplicate your Hair layer ! Because you can’t remove the things you draw with the dodge & burn Tool ! I start with these settings : 45 px (soft round brush * If you use a Tablet remove the pressure function in the menu for the brush settings *)0% hardness28 % burnmiddle tonesImagine sunlight and now imagine the place of the natural shading…. the most darkest parts are at the top of the tail, at the between the tail and the body and at the end of the hairs 6 Dodge-tool This is a effective Tool to light up colors and draw realistic Highlights. Make the same steps as with the burn tool. ATTENTION ! Duplicate your Hair layer ! Because you can’t remove the things you draw with the dodge & burn Tool ! I start with these settings : 72 px (soft round brush * If you use a Tablet remove the pressure function in the menu for the brush settings *)0% hardness26% burnmiddle tonesNow try to find the opposite to the shading parts .

You must only chose 3 Color Tones from the same family e.g. Brown : You need a light brown basic brown and a dark brown

So let’s start with the brush settings, i use a basic Photoshop brush with

2px
100% hardness
100% opacity

Colors :
Basic. # 838383
Light: # ececec
Shade : # 313131

Let’s start with the ‘outline’ start at the top and draw tiny - middle hard lines, those helps you to find a good form for you’re tail. If you are not happy with the result, try it again.

2

Now we filled the Tail with the basic color i use a 2 px brush for this, for the most realistic look i draw every single hair until the tail is complete filled. If you want to cut him later draw it long enough !
Chose a 2 px brush with the same settings from step 1
2px
100% hardness
100% opacity

And draw some tiny hair on the outside, use lower pressure for this !
2px
100% hardness
100% opacity

3 Shading

Now start with the shading i use a 2 px round brush with these settings

2px
100% hardness
31% opacity

Shade the tail in the same way like step 2, draw hair by hair
Use more pressure for darker lines and lower pressure for light lines.

4 Highlights

Change the brush size to 1 px and use this settings

1px
100% hardness
43% opacity

And start to draw the highlights in the same way you draw the shades.
Use more pressure for darker lines and lower pressure for light lines.

5 Burn - tool

This is a effective Tool to dim colors and draw realistic shades. Now it’s time to experience a little, you can try out different brush sizes and opacity.
ATTENTION ! Duplicate your Hair layer ! Because you can’t remove the things you draw with the dodge & burn Tool !

I start with these settings :

45 px (soft round brush * If you use a Tablet remove the pressure function in the menu for the brush settings *)
0% hardness
28 % burn
middle tones

Imagine sunlight and now imagine the place of the natural shading…. the most darkest parts are at the top of the tail, at the between the tail and the body and at the end of the hairs

6 Dodge-tool

This is a effective Tool to light up colors and draw realistic Highlights. Make the same steps as with the burn tool.
ATTENTION ! Duplicate your Hair layer ! Because you can’t remove the things you draw with the dodge & burn Tool !

I start with these settings :

72 px (soft round brush * If you use a Tablet remove the pressure function in the menu for the brush settings *)
0% hardness
26% burn
middle tones

Now try to find the opposite to the shading parts .
